Welcome to the Music & Recording Toolbox, my personal weblog. There are five basic elements of this blog:
1. VST Discovery, where I share only the best free music & recording software, sometimes highlighting their commercial equivalents. This shows you how much money you could've spent to get the job done!
2. Best In Class features Top 10-style lists of the best instruments and recording tools.
3. Software Clones, of which there are many, are especially interesting to me. I show you mainly free software clones of instruments and other music gear with this fun feature.
4. For The Money, which covers that sweet spot between expensive payware and freeware. There are amazing, top-quality plug-ins being developed and sold for a pittance, usually without any real advertising; we try to show you the best software For The Money.
5. MRT University, Music & Recording Toolbox University is a collection of tutorials and other instruction and will have features for beginners and pro's alike.
The goal of this site is to:
1. Save you time! It is my hope that the time I have spent accumulating all of this information will simplify the search for you. This is a single source for most of what you need to play and record.
2. Make music making FUN! I have gone through love/hate phases of making music and have noticed that when I discover new and useful tools and techniques it makes me excited to go make some music! The features like Best In Class are for enjoyment as well.
Nearly all support for this blog is received directly and intentionally from readers whom my work has been of direct value, either by saving them money, time, or by giving them knowledge. If you are grateful for my work, click here for information on different ways you can say thanks :-)
