VST Discovery: Easytoolz easy-MD 01

The Easytoolz easy-MD 01 looks an awful lot like Moog's MoogerFooger MF-104Z Analog Delay (minus $729 price tag, that is.) The developer doesn't go as far as to make the claim that he's trying to make a clone of it, but he does confess to at least creating a "vintage-style" delay. The fact that his filter offering, the easy-MF 202 is admittedly Moog-inspired leads me to believe that this one is meant to be similar as well.

The Easytoolz easy-MD 01 even has an extra feature that the MoogerFooger doesn't: an LFO Modulator. Why do I find it ironic that it's the free one that has the extra feature? :-)

Synth: Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Clone

What is it?: Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Clone
Platform: PC, Linux

Format: VST
Price: FREE!

This is a shining example of what can make free VST's so exciting! It sounds fantastic, and I'd bet 90% of us can't tell the difference between this one and the real thing. An extremely well-done interface is the icing on the cake for this Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 clone.

Native Instruments released their own clone of the Prophet V (the Pro-53), and have sold tons of them for $199. The Arturia Prophet V sells for $199 as well. So now you can start daydreaming of what you would have done with all that money you would have saved if you were going to buy the N.I. Pro 53 or Prophet V but found our post first. To be honest, there is a pretty big disadvantage in getting the free Prophanity: it doesn't come with fake wood edges and a fake keyboard drawn on. Sacrifices, sacrifices...

Limiter

Platform: PC, Linux
Format: VST
Price: FREE!

Inspired by popular analogue limiters of the past, this Leveling Amplifier is ideal for both mastering and individual track limiting. Try it on bass guitar, room mics for drums, or any other signal that responds well to being driven hard. It's response to peaks is very fast with a slow release for minimum distortion.

This VST always reminds me of an LA-3A, and that makes me feel all warm inside (kind of like its sound!)
